Jewish Leader Pushes PR Efforts in Muslim Countries

Dr. Alexander Mashkevich, a Jewish community leader from Kazakhstan, has called on Israel to put more effort into its public relations with the Muslim world.  Muslims in Kazakhstan and other Muslim-majority countries such as Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan are increasingly anti-Israel, he said, leading them to elect anti-Israel leaders.

In an interview with the Jerusalem Post, Mashkevich argued that “simple people don’t know the real situation.”  While some Muslims would never like Israel, he said, Israel should clearly present the facts in order to reduce anti-Israel feelings as much as possible.  Israel is central to Jewish identity in Kazakhstan, he said.
