Vatican May Drop Prayer Offensive to Jews

A senior Vatican official said Wednesday that it may delete a controversial prayer that recently has been revived and which calls for the conversion of Jews. Holy See Secretary of State, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone told a news conference that "we could simply study" the possibility of substituting the Good Friday prayer, which pleas for the removal of the "veil" from Jewish hearts.

The move of German-born Pope Benedict earlier this month to re-introduce the prayer has sparked fears of a split within the church between traditionalists and reformers.
