Tony Blair, former British Prime Minister and recently appointed Middle East envoy for the Quartet, will visit Israel and the Palestinian Authority (PA) next Monday, officials announced. He plans to visit the area every month for one week.
His official capacity is to help the PA operate a governmental infrastructure that will make it easier for it to take responsiblity for a proposed new Arab state. However, several Quartet members also want him to try to pressure Israel into entering immediate negotiations on the borders of the proposed state.
The Quartet is comprised of the United States, the United Nations, the European Union (EU) and Russia.
