Turkey Says it Might Return 2,700-Year-Old Tablet

Visiting Turkish officials told Jerusalem Mayor Uri Lupolianski they will seriously consider returning to the city a tablet dating back to the time of King Hezekiah and taken to Turkey by Ottoman Empire rulers after the British conquest in 1917.

The tablet includes testimonies from the period of the First Temple and describes the construction of the tunnel built under a mountain. The antiquity was discovered in 1880.

Mayor Lupolianski has proposed that the city build a monument to commemorate the Turkish soldiers who died on what is now Israel during World War One.
