UN: North Korean Reactor Has Been Shut Down

Members of the United Nations’ International Atomic Energy Agency have confirmed that North Korea’s nuclear reactor has been shut down.  IAEA Director General Mohammed El-Baradei announced the shutdown during a visit in Bangkok on Monday morning.

North Korean officials announced the shutdown on Sunday, and received a first shipment of oil from South Korea.  The oil shipment was part of a set of diplomatic and economic incentives offered to North Korea in exchange for its agreement to give up its nuclear weapons program.
