A law that would promote Israeli labor over the hiring of foreign workers in the agricultural sector has been stalled in the Knesset Finance Committee by its Chairman, Stas Misezhnikov.
The measure, proposed by Meretz Knesset Member Ran Cohen, would involve the allocation of NIS 5 million to encourage Israeli farmers to hire Israeli workers.
Although the bill passed the vote in committee unanimously, with two abstentions, Mesezhnikov, a member of the Russian immigrant party Yisrael Beiteinu, called for a revote at a later date, thereby stalling the bill.
