Aliyah Up from US, Canada

Jewish Agency officials said Thursday that they anticipate the largest number of new immigrants from the United States since 1983 in 2007. The total number of new immigrants from North America is expected to be 5-10% higher than the 3,200 registered in 2006.

Boaz Herman, head of the North American Aliyah Department, said that the increase in immigration cuts across age groups and religious affiliation. 70% of the new immigrants are under the age of 35, he said, and almost 40% are under the age of 18.
