High Court Prevents Sacking of 1,500 Teachers
The High Court of Justice ruled Sunday to postpone the planned cut in the local government's expenditures on teachers' salaries by one year. However, 3% of the cut (NIS 5 million) will be carried out this year.
The ruling means that most or all of the 1,500 teachers who were supposed to be fired this year will be keeping their jobs. However, it appears the NIS 5 million cut will involve some teachers losing their jobs.
High Court President Beinisch chided the Ministry of Education for "trying to correct one instance of discrimination by creating another."
