Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is telephoning Cabinet ministers at this hour to speed up approval for appointing him as Defense Minister in place of Amir Peretz.

The unusual move follows the rapidly changing situation in the Palestinian Authority (PA). Official Cabinet approval is expected on Monday. Until then, Barak, a former IDF Chief of Staff and Prime Minister, is consulting with Peretz and receiving updates.
