Thursday night, thousands of believers will travel to the traditional location of the tombs of Joshua and Caleb in Samaria. The two were the only spies to give a positive report of the Land of Israel in the episode that will be read in synagogues on Shabbat.

The tombs are located in Timnat Heres, mentioned in the biblical book of Joshua (19:49-50). Nowadays, the Arab village of Kifl Hares, northwest of Ariel, occupies the location.

Aside from the eve before the Shabbat of ‘Shelach’ (when the episode of the spies is read), pilgrimages to the site are traditionally made on the 26th of the Jewish month of Nissan, regarded as the anniversary of Joshua’s death.
