The Nahalel Forum group has petitioned newly installed IDF OC Central Commander Gadi Shamani to cancel a protest scheduled for this Tuesday by Peace Now and other leftist groups in Hevron. The leftists are protesting to mark the 40th anniversary of the liberation of the city from Jordanian occupation during the Six Day War.

Zafrir Ronen, who authored the letter on behalf of Nahalel, wrote that it was clear that the purpose of the protests was “to uproot the existence of the Hevron Jewish community.” The IDF should ban such a protest against Jews, just like it undoubtedly would if a group came to protest the existence of the Arab community in the city. Ronen wrote that members of Nahalel and other patriotic groups would do everything they could to prevent the leftist protest from taking place.
