Florida Governor Charlie Crist is holding trade talks with business and political leaders in Israel this week. "It's certainly more than an economic-development trip," said Aubrey Jewett, a political science professor at the University of Central Florida. "A lot of people are now talking about our governor being a potential [national] running mate, and these are the kinds of high-profile trips that give you national exposure."
Business executives and several Florida government members are accompanying Gov. Crist, who also is visiting the Old City in Jerusalem and the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial.
"Israel is such a great trading partner with the state of Florida and America," Crist after meeting in Jerusalem on Tuesday with Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni. "It's important for us to have the opportunity to express that face-to-face."
