The government granted permission to IDF commanders to expand ground operations in Gaza on Monday morning. However, permission has not been granted for an IDF entrance into Arab cities, and sources say that most strikes against local terrorists will continue to be carried out by the Air Force.

Soldiers are currently stationed in northern Gaza, including in Jewish towns destroyed in 2005, and immediately outside of the Gaza security fence. Southern District commanders will increase the number of soldiers in the area in the near future. IDF officials said Sunday that despite the growing pressure on Hamas to call for a ceasefire, the fighting in Gaza is expected to last for several weeks.
