National Religious Party Chairman Zevulun Orlev responded to Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s call for the Attorney General to investigate State Comptroller Micha Lindenstrauss, calling the move “a threat to democracy.”

“A grave thing is being done here, which presents a threat to democracy,” Orlev said. “[PM Olmert] is trying to save himself and trying to shift public opinion away from his failings that have been revealed.”

Orlev added that rather than provide an example of striving to improve and rectify his mistakes to all the civil servants who have been criticized by the comptroller, “Olmert is trying to attack the very institution of State Comptroller.”
