Prime Minister Ehud Olmert asked Attorney General Menachem Mazuz to open an investigation against State Comptroller Micha Lindenstrauss on Monday. Olmert claims that the comptroller has been misusing his powers.

Lindenstrauss recently submitted documents to Mazuz to see if a criminal investigation could be opened against Olmert regarding a property in Jerusalem. MK Aryeh Eldad (National Union) called Olmert’s move the “pitiful spin of a failed Prime Minister”. The Likud issued a statement saying that Olmert's actions indicate panic and audacity, and trample the rule of law in Israel.
