An advisor to Iranian spiritual leader Ayatollah Khomeini said Thursday that Iran had achieved her goals in taking 15 British marines hostage. The marines were taken captive while on patrol, and Iranian officials claimed they had entered Iranian waters.

According to the advisor, Britain sent an official letter of apology. His claim was picked up by several foreign television networks. British Prime Minister Tony Blair denied the claim, insisting that there was no deal made in the matter.
