Egypt, Israel to Cooperate on Weapons Smuggling

Egyptian authorities promised to increase their cooperation with Israel, in a four-way meeting between Israel, Egypt, the United States, and the Palestinian Authority. According to the new agreement, Egyptian security officers will share intelligence information regarding weapons smuggling with Israeli authorities, as well as information about wanted terrorists who enter Egypt from Gaza.

Egyptian authorities have expressed concern in recent weeks about weapons smuggling between Egypt and Gaza through a series of tunnels in the border town of Rafiah. While many Egyptians used to support the tunnels, authorities now fear they will be used by terrorists to infiltrate the Sinai Peninsula and attack Israeli tourists in Egypt.
