Egypt to Rice: Mind Your Own Business

Egypt on Saturday criticized U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice over remarks she made criticizing plans to change the constitution to ban protests by Islamists and other opponents of President Hosni Mubarak. On a trip to Egypt Friday, Rice said she hoped the changes "would be a process that gave voice to all Egyptians."

Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmad Aboul Gheit denounced Rice's comments, saying, "It is unimaginable that someone would speak about and judge an Egyptian internal political process before it even starts. Even if Egypt and the United States have a friendly, strategic relationship, Egypt can't accept interference in its affairs from any of its friends."
