Iranian sources said Thursday that they plan to appeal Interpol’s decision to issue an international arrest warrant for five Iranian officials. The five, along with a Lebanese citizen, are suspected of involvement in the bombing of a Jewish community center that killed 85 people. The attack took place in Buenos Aires in 1994.

Argentinean officials have insisted for years that the bombing was carried out by Hizbullah terrorists who were following orders from senior Iranian officials. An Iranian diplomat in Buenos Aires responded to their claims on Thursday, saying Argentinean police have no evidence which would justify requesting an arrest warrant. The diplomat accused Interpol of caving in to American political pressure.
