Egypt, PA Stand Their Ground on Saudi Plan and PA Unity

Egypt and the Palestinian Authority (PA) have rejected making any changes in the Saudi peace plan and in the PA unity government's policy, which does not recognize Israel or denounce terrorism.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit said Wednesday that Cairo expects Israel to accept the plan and that no changes will be considered before an Arab summit at the end of this month. The initiative was hatched in 2002 and offers Arab League nations' recognition of Israel in return for a surrender of all of Judea, Samaria and Gaza, including eastern Jerusalem and the Old City, and the right of millions of Arabs in foreign countries to live in Israel.
