Second U.S. Aircraft Carrier Arrives in Middle East

A second United States aircraft carrier has arrived in the Middle East but has not yet entered the Persian Gulf, where the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower has been patrolling.

The second ship, USS John C. Stennis, is based in Manama and is conducting maritime operations while backing up American troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Bush administration has denied that the deployment of the aircraft carriers is part of a plan to attack Iran.
