I am a resident of Shiloh, with my wife and children, and now grandchildren, since 1981, having come on Aliyah in 1970. I have served in a volunteer capacity as a Yesha Council spokesperson, twice a member of Amana's secretariat, Benjamin Regional Council plenum member and mayor of Shiloh. I was a parliamentary aide for Geula Cohen and two other MKs, an advisor to a Minister, vice-chairman and executive director of Israel's Media Watch and was Information and Content Resource coordinator for the Begin Heritage Center. I am now Deputy Editor of the critical edition in anthology of Jabotinsky's writing in English.

Susan Hussein of Boonton Township, N.J. has a letter in the New York Times.

It is in response to Yishai Fleisher's op-ed.

What bothered her was this:

Can a state be considered a democracy if a large number of citizens are born into a condition where they can never, by law, enjoy all the rights of a special group of favored citizens? Doesn’t democracy require equal application of the laws?

Well, American citizens in Washington, D.C. Peru and Guam have restrictions on their ability to vote in US elections.

But the US is still a democracy. And it isn't the sole example.

And consider that Jordan is part of the geographical unit known as Palestine.  Why cannot persons reside in Israel and vote for the Jordanian parliament all the while the civil and religious rights fully protected just as guaranteed in the League of Nations Mandate for Palestine decision:-

Whereas the Principal Allied Powers have also agreed that the Mandatory should be responsible for putting into effect the declaration originally made on November 2nd, 1917, by the Government of His Britannic Majesty, and adopted by the said Powers, in favor of the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people, it being clearly understood that nothing should be done which might prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine

I think the NYTimes needs a fact-checker to avoid fake information.
