Jerusalem Mayor Nir Birkat shared his vision of how to counter BDS through positive messaging in a speech this summer at the dedication of the Jerusalem Center of StandWithUs. [Scroll down for video]

The dedication ceremony was a class tribute honoring Dr. Shmuel and Evelyn Katz from Miami Beach. The Katz’s joined the StandWithUs Israel advocacy organization when there was only one office in Los Angeles. They saw the potential and provided funding, vision, and leadership to expand the group’s operations to multiple centers around the world, the latest of which bears their name in Jerusalem.

Dr. Shmuel Katz is an ardent advocate of “positive messaging” in presenting Israel, an approach that I wholly agree with. One of the pamphlets that he produced contains the following amazing points:

  • Israel has more start-up companies per capita than any other country.
  • Israel has the second-highest number of total start-ups in the world after the U.S.
  • Microsoft, Google, Apple, Facebook, IBM, and many others have opened research facilities in Israel to benefit from its innovation capabilities.
  • Israel has the most scientists and technicians per capita in the world.
  • Israel ranks as the top country for scientific publications. Almost 60 percent are in biology and related medical or agricultural fields.

All of us harbor dreams and aspirations for the Jewish People; the Katz’s are an inspiring example of how to actualize these ideas, join forces, and turn a dream into reality.

At the dedication of the Katz Center across from the King David Hotel, Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat highlighted points that he makes to international audiences. The following video excerpt captures the crux of his positive Jerusalem messaging. The video was filmed and uploaded by Bet El Institutions.
