A "shenanigan" is defined by Webster's Dictionary as "a devious trick used especially for an underhand purpose".

Mahmoud Abbas is a master.  Abbas' latest shenanigan is to get the United Nations Security Council to recognize a PLO State and set a three year timetable for Israel to withdraw 600,000 Israelis and its security forces from Judea and Samaria.

Even Secretary of State John Kerry who has been one of the most difficult Secretary's of State in recent memory said the United States was "unlikely to support a resolution that set such a timetable and attempted to unilaterally impose a solution". The Prime Minister of Israel said it well , "We will always safeguard our security. This is our lesson both from the days of the Maccabees and in our day". Abbas' attempt to bypass and impose a dictate upon Israel right before an election will only result in strengthening the very parties he is trying to weaken.

Abbas' obtaining Non-Member Observer Status in the United Nations General Assembly on Nov.29th 2012, a move opposed by the United States, only caused Israel to harden its positions and increase its worries about an eventual Hamas takeover (as they did in Gaza in 2007) of Abbas'"activities" in Judea and Samaria. In point of of fact Abbas is in cahoots this time with Hamas.

The Agreement signed between Hamas and Abbas in April 2014 is still very much in effect. Despite all the rhetoric, Abbas is working "with", "alongside", and "for" Hamas. Hamas and Abbas have been playing the "good cop, bad cop" routine for a long time. The world mistakenly thinks that by propping up Abbas they are hurting Hamas. Actually, the opposite is true. The more Abbas is boosted the more Hamas benefits. Hamas got severely spanked in Operation Protective Edge so they are now playing the Abbas-United Nations card to try to explain their defeat away. None of these shenanigans will bring Peace.

I also think it is important to take this opportunity to thank the members of the United Nations, including the United States, who opposed the Abbas sponsored "Non-Member Observer Status" Grab in the United Nations General Assembly in 2012. These members include:Canada, Czech Republic, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Panama, and Palau. They should be blessed for their support of Israel. A United States Veto of Abbas upcoming United Nations Security Council resolution would be highly praiseworthy and blessed as well. Abbas' shenanigans must finally come to an end once and for all. Only then might Peace be achieved
