As the 3rd Intifada casts a dark shadow over our beautiful capital city of Jerusalem, I find myself recalling that great American movie Independence Day about aliens coming to take over our planet, destroying everything in their path.
It was nearly 20 years ago and one of my kids used to love acting out one particular scene by squashing his face against the plate glass window to the playroom. You may remember it: when the captured alien tightens its eely tentacle around the scientist's throat and, pressing his face against the Plexiglas lab wall, the alien uses the scientist's own voicebox to communicate with the American president on the other side of the glass.
I Googled the scene and got this paste from the original script:
INT. MEDICAL LAB - SAME
The President has moved closer to the glass and is talking
with the alien. The alien uses Dr Okun like a ventriloquist's
dummy.
PRESIDENT
Why did you people come here?
OKUN/ALIEN
Air...water...your "sun."
PRESIDENT
Where do your people come from?
(no answer)
Where is your home?
OKUN/ALIEN
Here...now.
PRESIDENT
And before here?
OKUN/ALIEN
Many worlds...
PRESIDENT
Can we negotiate a truce? is
there room for co-existence?
(no answer)
Can there be peace between us?
OKUN/ALIEN
Peace? No peace.
PRESIDENT
What do you want us to do?
OKUN/ALIEN
Die.
How similar this is to Israel’s predicament.
What is it that leftists don't get about this simple truth?
