The writer is a leading American pro-Israel activist who sponsors and coordinates many Zionist events. He is clinical Assistant Professor, Department of Medicine (Gastroenterology & Liver Diseases) at the Einstein School of Medicine as well as a practicing physician.

The Media, the President of the United States, and his Secretary of State, have been highly critical of Israel's killing of civilians in the face of all out War.

No one more than Israel's Defense Forces tries harder to avoid collateral damage. There is no army that has a better track record of protecting the innocent more than Israel. America for its part tries hard to prevent collateral damage but does not come close to Israel's level. War is not a game. It is brutal, and grotesque. Israel does not wage war unless its back is against the proverbial wall. Thousands of Hamas missiles aimed at civilians put Israel in this very uncomfortable position. Although over 1800 people died in Gaza, approximately 900 were Hamas Terrorist Fighters.

This would mean that the ratio of civilian to combatant deaths is approximately 1:1. In America's bombing of Kosovo the ratio of civilian to combatant deaths was 4:1. The ratio in the Iraq War from 2003 to 2010 was also 4:1. In other words when America goes to War it kills four times the number of civilians as did Israel in Operation Protective Edge. As good as American forces are a minimum of 134,000 civilians were killed from 2003 to 2013 according to Prof. Meta C. Crawford of Boston University.

The number is probably closer to 250,000 according to the professor's research. Operation Protective Edge severely crippled Hamas' fighting capacity for now. It did not, unfortunately, eliminate it. Will the International Community finally put an end to Hamas' stockpiling of weapons, and missiles, training its children to become the next generation of Terrorists, and building new Tunnels? It is highly doubtful. According to by Miriam Harris Bodzum using statistics from Al Jazeera and other Arab News Agencies, 80% of those killed by Israel were men. 60% of these men were between the ages of 15 to 29. This is consistent with the age of enemy Hamas fighters.

Another 18% were between the ages of 30 to 48 which also places them in combatant age range. All of this supports Israel's claim that 900 Hamas fighters were killed in Operation Protective Edge. Hamas' use of civilians as Human Shields was done purely for PR purposes. Israel's ability to pinpoint enemy terrorists would have been a lot better if Hamas did not do this dastardly deed.

They killed their own to grab the Headlines. Hopefully, a few honest reporters will come forward with what really went on this past month. The President and Secretary of State owe Israel an immense apology. The Media owes Israel an even greater apology.
