Rosh Chodesh Av

B"H

Chodesh tov.  Yes, I realize what month this is- the month of Av and as we go from memorial service to memorial service and pray for our soldiers who are fighting and for our wounded and our hearts break for our losses and the families who lost their sons we must never break- we must believe that this month which throughout our history has brought pain, sorrow, destruction will indeed become a month of joy, unity, return and rebuilding of our Temple and Land, security and love.

Day after day we live through the war that we are fighting, we live through the memories of our loved ones who fell or were injured.  We live through the pain of the destruction of Gush Katif and the knowledge of the suffering of not only our familes who were thrown out of their lives, homes, businesses, graves but the horrific price that we pay ever since- rockets all over Israel, tunnels ready to murder, kidnap, destroy us.

Is it really 9 years since the destruction of Gush Katif?  How many battles have we fought since?  How many fallen, killed, injured?  How much pain and sorrow?

We hear the names of the villages where we used to travel when we were in the Gush, and see what has become of them and the people who live?  (do they really live or merely exist under the Hamas) there.

The same communities around Gaza who demonstrated in support of the destruction of Gush Katif are now paying the price for this treasonable, deplorable and stupid act.  History should have taught our people especially here in our Land that if we are not there an enemy will be who will continue to plan, and attempt to destroy us.

It is my prayer not only today on Rosh Chodesh Av- but each day that we will be granted true leadership that protects HaShem, our Torah our Land and people - and that we be worthy of doing the same.

For our brave soldiers who fell in this battle and for those who fell 8 years ago in Lebanon: Amichai, Roi,Ohad, Emanuel, and all of our sons and to the families we will not ever forget you and pray to do only good in your memory and honor.
