Dr. Joseph Frager
When the United States State Department gave its tacit approval to Mahmoud Abbas pact with Hamas it once again crossed all the Red Lines.
The Secretary of State John Kerry should have immediately cut off America's 440 million dollars in scheduled Aid to the PA. Instead the Secretary of State said, "the United States would monitor the situation closely and judge any government based upon its composition, policies, and actions." Hamas is considered a Terrorist Organization by America and the West. The Prime Minister of Israel rightfully called on the International Community "not to run to recognize" the new unity government. Dressing up Hamas in Designer suits does not change their open desire to destroy Israel.
Hamas has been the cause of thousands of rockets from Gaza into Israel since they brutally evicted Fatah/PLO in 2006. There has been absolutely no change in Hamas' tactics of suicide bombings and Rocket Attacks. Even Mahmoud Abbas recognizes this fact but would like to pull the wool over the world's eyes. Former Hamas spokesman Ihab al-Ghussein as quoted on June 8th, 2014 by Palestinian Media Watch's Itamar Marcus said, "You know what Mahmoud Abbas says behind closed doors? He says: Guys, let me (continue) saying what I say to the Media.
Those words are meant for the Americans and (Israel) not for you (Hamas). What's important is what we agree on among ourselves. In other words, when I go out and say that the government is my government and it recognizes "Israel" and so on, fine-these words are meant to trick the Americans." Abbas has no plan ever to truly recognize Israel's Right to exist and Hamas' objective ultimately is to infiltrate Judea and Samaria the same way it did in Gaza. It is not satisfied sending rockets from Gaza into Southern Israel, it wants to send rockets from Judea and Samaria as well.
It wants to control Judea and Samaria as it controls Gaza. Make no mistake about it the Obama Administration once again would rather surrender than fight. Instead of condemning the Agreement between the PLO and Hamas it simply accepts it without even pretending to fight. Not all Democrats feel that way and quite a few plan to halt funding the PA immediately.
Instead of shock and anger the Obama Administration once again resorts to complacency and acceptance. The Middle East is still a raging Fire including Syria, Iran and Libya and the President would do best to spend his precious time quelling these fires before pursuing an even more elusive Non-starter Agreement with "Terror Incorporated".
