In psychology, "projection" is defined as assigning to others one's own thoughts and feelings, especially those thoughts and feelings perceived as socially unacceptable. Might a whole society suffer from a serious projection problem? 

The Plot to Take Over the World
On October 22, 2007, a Lebanese television station carried a report on The Protocols of the Elders of Zion. No, it was not an expose - it was an endorsement.
"The goal of Islam is to rule the entire world.... Any nation or power that gets in the way of that goal, Islam will fight and destroy."

The program declared that the Jews - of course, code-named "Zionists" - "plan to subjugate the entire world...." According to the program's narration, "the Jewish Talmud... says that the Jews must devote their greatest efforts to prevent other nations from ruling... so that the rule would be in the hands of the Jews alone."

This charge - that Jews want to take over the world - is repeated incessantly in Muslim and Arab media in one or another vile form.

And yet... And yet.....

A very influential Islamist thinker, Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi (1903-1979), of India and Pakistan, wrote a treatise called "Jihad in Islam", in which he says:

"Islam is not a normal religion like the other religions in the world and Muslim nations are not like normal nations. Muslim nations are very special because they have a command from Allah to rule the entire world and to be over every nation in the world.

“Islam wishes to destroy all States and Governments anywhere on the face of the earth which are opposed to the ideology and programme of Islam...

"The goal of Islam is to rule the entire world and submit all of mankind to the faith of Islam. Any nation or power that gets in the way of that goal, Islam will fight and destroy...This is Jihad."

Drinking the Blood of Gentiles
Another popular story promulgated throughout the Islamic ummah is that Jews have killed non-Jewish children for use in holiday foods. Yes, the blood libel is alive and well in Islamdom.

And yet... And yet.....

"We are a nation that drinks blood, and we know that there is no blood better than the blood of Jews. We will not leave you alone until we have quenched our thirst with your blood, and our children's thirst with your blood." - Adham Ahmad Hujyla Abu Jandal in a message recorded before he carried out a suicide attack on December 7, 2004.

The least frothing-at-the-mouth anti-Semitic of lies popular among the Arabs and Muslims is that Israeli soldiers shoot live ammunition indiscriminately at peaceful, defenseless

And yet... And yet.....

Last week, six people were killed by Hamas "security forces" in Gaza during a massive memorial rally to mark the third anniversary of the death of Yasser Arafat. The Hamas gunmen opened fire on tens of thousands of Fatah supporters. 

"Fatah loyalists said Hamas forces, who were stationed on rooftops around the city fired at the crowd. Hamas officials said their forces were responding to Fatah members hurling rocks at the security buildings," according to a report by our own Hana Levi Julian.

I could go on, but I think this sampling is enough to suggest to the US team assigned to Annapolis that they bring along a good psychiatrist.
