This Week Today

Current Events from Israel

Hope everyone had a lovely Rosh Hashanah. From the health scare for Bernie Sanders today, it would appear that Elizabeth "Pocahontas" Warren must have spent alot of time in shul, praying with much intensity.

When Will It Be Enough for Iran?

As almost always recently, we will start with Iran. Let's face it, with that much continuous evil activity, they've earned the right to go first. So this week some pretty crazy reports came out about a Houthi (Yemeni Shiites, supported by Iran) attack on a Saudi Arabian military installation. According to the Houthis, they attacked the Saudi base with drones and missiles and then captured THOUSANDS of Saudi soldiers as prisoners. That's right: THOUSANDS. Like you and me, many people were quite skeptical of this number or if the incident happened at all. So the world basically said to the Houthis: "Pics or it didn't happen." Shortly thereafter, pictures emerged of at least hundreds of prisoners being led at gunpoint through the desert. Authentic? Who knows. Since then its all been very quiet. Saudi response - not so much yet. Even without a military or any other response, maybe Iran will probably just tell their proxies to stop attacking Saudi Arabia anyway. Not bloody likely! Definitely more to come!

More Terrorists Caught

This week Israeli security services captured more terrorists believed to be responsible for the terror attack that killed Jewish teenager Rina Snerb, hy'd, a few weeks ago. Its still not clear if all those responsible have been arrested. In order to help ascertain this kind of information and possibly information on other terrorist activities, the Israeli interrogators were authorized to use advanced techniques on one of the terrorists arrested. This resulted in the terrorist being taken to the hospital in critical condition. Unfortunately he has since recovered, but now its time for more interrogation.

Netanyahu's Pre-Indictment Hearing

Today was the beginning of possibly 2 weeks of hearings where Prime Minister Netanyahu's lawyers will have the opportunity to try to convince prosecutors not to indict him on various corruption charges. The first hearing lasted approximately 11 hours. (Obviously the lawyers are billing by the hour!) So far, Netanyahu and his lawyers are projecting confidence in their arguments, but it remains to be seen how well things are actually going for them.

Update on the Israel Coalition Government Situation

While these aforementioned hearings are ongoing, the business of trying to form a functioning coalition government continues.

Here are things that are the same from last we met:

-Right-wing bloc of all religious parties and Netanyahu appears stable

-Left-wing unable to form coalition under any realistic circumstances

-Unity government between Likud and "Blue and White" still not happening

Difference:

-Everyone is using softer rhetoric, no one wants to be blamed for a third election.

-The Big Difference: Avigdor Lieberman has decided to meet with Netanyahu, something he previously had refused to do. Is he going to soften his position and entertain the possibility of joining a Netanyahu-led government? If he does, that will be totally wild.

In the meantime, let's all repent a bit and look forward to reading the next update without any sin after Yom Kippur! Gmar Chasima Tova!
