Originally from Petersburg, Virginia, Ben Packer moved to Israel in 1999, where he served in the IDF's Givati Brigade in the Gaza Strip. Ben served as a Rabbi on campus at Univ. of North Carolina and at Duke Univ. Ben now serves as Director of the Jerusalem Heritage House (www.heritagehouse.org.il) and Co-Director of Young Jewish Conservatives (www.youngjewishconservatives.org). He lives in the Old City of Jerusalem with his wife and 6 children....

Recently it has become more and more clear how much better it would be for pretty much everyone here if the "palestinian authority (PA)" would just go away. Of course it wouldn't be great for the actual members of the PA themselves, like in any mafia structure. However, for the overwhelming number of Jews and arabs, life would be significantly better without these scoundrels in any level of power.

For the arabs, currently and for the past 25 years, they need to be constantly concerned about potential persecution, for whatever reason, from the PA. Most notably, this includes torture, which has recently been well documented from numerous cases. No freedom of expression, civil rights, even worse for the gays. No surprises here. Corruption, inefficiency, pollution, etc.

For the Jews, the PA encourages and commits terror that kill Jewish people. They spread classical anti-Semitism as well or better than any neo-nazi, klansman or farrakhan. The refuse to allow Jews to enter holy places just to be jerks. Goes on and on.

However, currently a new dimension of just how bad the PA is for the Jewish State has emerged. An article today at Arutz 7 (see here)  reports on dozens of arabs arrested for the "crime" of attempting to sell land to Jews. In this one incident we may be talking about over 700 acres, all in very strategic areas. Recently we saw an Israeii arab murdered in Israel for involvement in land sales and denial of muslim burial to a Jerusalem resident who was compensated for abandoning his Jewish-owned property in the Old City of Jerusalem.

Its difficult to know exactly what impact the PA is having on stopping land sales, but it stands to reason that many arabs are at least intimidated, if not petrified, to consider selling their land to a Jew. However this remains one of our best devices for strengthening the Jewish Presence throughout our ancestral homeland. Who could have imagined that we would return to Amona so quickly? How was it done? Land purchase. Who could have really thought the Government would take such measures of development of the Jewish Community of Hevron - the potential construction of 100 new units?!! Wouldn't be realistic without the recent legal purchases of properties throughout Hevron, like Beit HaShalom, Beit Rachel and Beit Leah. How much more so around the Old City of Jerusalem - Ir Dovid, Maale Zeitim, Kfar Teimanim, Shimon HaTzadik - all places that would off limits to Jews without legal purchases, recent and historical, of property there.

First these arabs who have been kidnapped need to be released/rescued. But then those who have done this to them and to so many others need to be removed. V'Shavu Banim L'Gvulam - And then the children will return to their borders! We will buy in Jerusalem and in Hevron and in Shechem and in Beit Lechem!

This is how the State was founded and this is how it will endure! Abraham taught us the way and "maaseh avot siman lebanim".
