Originally from Petersburg, Virginia, Ben Packer moved to Israel in 1999, where he served in the IDF's Givati Brigade in the Gaza Strip. Ben served as a Rabbi on campus at Univ. of North Carolina and at Duke Univ. Ben now serves as Director of the Jerusalem Heritage House (www.heritagehouse.org.il) and Co-Director of Young Jewish Conservatives (www.youngjewishconservatives.org). He lives in the Old City of Jerusalem with his wife and 6 children....

After the recent municipal elections in Jerusalem, its now time to get to work. (Almost a direct quote from Moshe Lion himself ("I’ve been elected, now I need to work"). Mayor-elect Moshe Lion will now have to put together a coalition of the elected city council members and allot positions of authority and responsibility. Alot of articles are appearing in various outlets almost threatening the new mayor not to forget about the side of the population in Jerusalem that voted against him. Suggested he is required to include them in the decision-making processes. This sounds very familiar to what we have been hearing from the United States since President Trump was elected 2 years ago.

There seems to be some kind of disconnect. Some kind of mystical belief in a right to both a participation trophy and forced inclusion. This is not the case. Elections have consequences! (Obama said that) The winning side is the side that decides how things will move forward. This is what happened when Barkat/Obama won and this should be the case when Lion/Trump won now.

Moshe Lion was elected, as was the City Council, in one of the most clear election results possibly ever. The majority has spoken. The voting majority in Jerusalem is Haredi/religious and right-wing. This should not surprise anyone. Because of absurd in-fighting, the left/anti-religious have ruled for the past 10 years in the Holy City. This will no longer continue and it shouldn't!

I hope and pray that the new Mayor will faithfully represent those who elected him and not those who write the newspapers. Its time to make Jerusalem great again!
