'We Are a Nation That Drinks Blood'by Nissan Ratzlav-Katz
In a report by Ezra HaLevi today, a Hamas spokesman is reported to have delivered a sermon in which he called for genocide of the Jews. The sermon, by Dr. Ismail Radwan, was broadcast on Palestinian Authority-controlled television.
As Ezra wrote, Radwan's call is indeed classic Hamas ideology. But they claim to be religious Muslims, so their spokespeople and their founding covenant, which includes the same genocidal exhortation as Radwan's latest speech, base themselves on Islamic religious sources. 
"We will not leave you alone until we have quenched our thirst with your blood..."
And so, we find in the passed down oral traditions (Hadith) of the statements and deeds of Islam's founder, Mohammad, the following:
Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: The last hour would not come unless the Muslims will fight against the Jews and the Muslims would kill them until the Jews would hide themselves behind a stone or a tree and a stone or a tree would say: Muslim, or the servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me; come and kill him; but the tree Gharqad would not say, for it is the tree of the Jews. -- compilation of Hadith named "Muslim," Book 041, Number 6985.
This quotation is promoted incessantly in PA mosques, media and schools.
Much like Radwan's spiel in March 2007, every so often, PA television carries a sermon in which an Islamic cleric or leader preaches, "The Prophet said: The Resurrection will not take place until the Muslims fight the Jews, and the Muslims kill them. Rejoice in Allah's Victory... Everything wants vengeance on the Jews... these pigs on the face of the earth. And the day of our victory, Allah willing, will come." This last quote is from Sheikh Ibrahim Mudayris, a Fatah-appointed cleric of the PA Ministry of Endowments & Religious Affairs (PA TV, September 10, 2004).
In 1994, Sheikh Taissir Rajab Al-Tamimi, the Palestinian Authority’s Chief of Judges and chairman of its Islamic law high council at the time, said: "The Jews are destined to be persecuted, humiliated, and tortured forever, and it is a Muslim duty to see to it that they reap their due. No petty arguments must be allowed to divide us. Where Hitler failed, we must succeed."
By the way, the fact that the latter sheikhs in question were appointed by the PLO and Fatah, not Hamas, should surprise no one. The head of the PLO's political department, Farouk Kaddoumi, in a 2003 interview with the Nazareth-based weekly Kul Al-Arab,
"Where Hitler failed, we must succeed."
explained, "We were never different from Hamas. Strategically, there is no difference between us." (Jerusalem Post January 6, 2003)
You see, for most Islamic fundamentalists, the Jews form a true obsession. The full and formal name for the international Islamic terrorist organization known as Al-Qaeda, for instance, is "The World Islamic Front for Jihad Against Jews and Crusaders", with "Crusaders" referring to the generally Christian West.
Given that, it is no surprise that in one Hamas terrorist's farewell video, he declared: "We are a nation that drinks blood, and we know that there is no blood better than the blood of Jews. We will not leave you alone until we have quenched our thirst with your blood, and our children’s thirst with your blood."

A Strange Free Speech Victory in Israelby Steven Plaut
It sounds like one of the silliest court cases in Israel but it actually is an important one. A Tel Aviv magistrate's court in Israel actually just defended freedom of speech. And it is a court decision that carries implications for other cases. The court case was a libel suit filed by municipal veterinarian of Raanana and Kfar Sava, Dr. Israel Glass, against another veterinarian and animal rights activist, Dr. Yuval Samuel, because the latter had written in an internet forum and elsewhere had accused the former of being a Gestapo member and operating concentration camps. It all had to do with animal rights. You see, in 2004 there were some outbreaks of rabies in Israel and the Raanana vet ordered stray cats killed. The animal rights nuts got their knickers in a twist about that and attacked him. Glass filed a libel suit against Samuel (for details, Hebrew only, see this). Glass is himself son of Holocaust survivors. The judge in the case, Avigail Cohen, tossed the suit out. It was protected speech, she insisted, whether or not one agrees with the claims or the style of speech of the animal nuts. It is legitimate debate about public matters and issues. Now I mention all of this because of how dramatically it illustrates how selective free speech is being protected in Israel and how outrageous and anti-democratic was the court ruling of the Arab woman judge Reem Naddaf in the Gordon-Plaut case, a case that bears some distant resemblance to the above suit.  While calling a private citizen (a veterinarian) a member of the Gestapo is protected speech in Israel, criticizing the political opinions of an anti-Semitic extremist academic and a public figure who writes columns for neo-Nazis and anti-Semites all over the world is libelous, ruled Judge Naddaf of Nazareth magistrate court last year. When Neve Gordon, an anti-Israel extremist from Ben Gurion University, and his destroy-Israel anarchist friends illegally entered Ramallah to interfere with Israeli anti-terror military operations and to prevent the arrest of wanted Palestinian murderers, he was denounced by me as belonging to a group of "Judenrat wannabes". I also denounced him for his long campaign to promote and endorse Holocaust Denier Norman Finkelstein, who evidently is being fired this month from DePaul University for HIS Neo-Nazi activities. Gordon filed a malicious frivolous "libel" suit against me in Nazareth court hoping to get a radical anti-Israel Arab judge. He got Judge Nadaff, who ruled that calling practitioners of such illegal anti-Semitic pro-terror behavior "Judenrat wannabes" is libelous. In her verdict the judge also justified and legitimized Holocaust revisionism. Prof. Alan Dershowitz denounced the judge and described Gordon thus: "It is my opinion that Neve Gordon has gotten into bed with neo-Nazis, Holocaust justice deniers, and anti-Semites. He is a despicable example of a self-hating Jew and a self-hating Israeli." Naddaf wants to create a system in which animal rights nuts can say whatever they want as protected speech, but Zionists criticizing the criminal behavior of anti-Semites and traitors may not. It is there in the headlines. The Iranians released the British hostages because they are afraid of the British. The Brits were not about to respond to Iranian atrocities by lecturing their own people about being sensitive to The Other. The Brits were not going to offer to take the cross off their flag in order to gain understanding with the Islamofascists. The Brits do not believe in strength through weakness, in courage through cowardice, in victory through capitulation. Gosh, how backward of them. Maybe they need Shimon Peres to educate them in the correct way. Israeli soldiers remain in captivity because Israel pursues peace through weakness and capitulation.
