Not-So-Random Notes on Redemption for the Eve of Pesach

by Nissan Ratzlav-Katz

In The Jewish State, the great Zionist leader and thinker Theodor Herzl made two qualified predictions that have proven utterly incorrect.

Regarding the Jewish Diaspora, he wrote, "[The] absorption of Jews by means of their prosperity is unlikely to occur."

Sadly, assimilation seems to be very advanced in the United States, where Jews are, as a group, arguably the most prosperous they have ever been. More than 50% of American Jews marry out of the faith community and the vast majority of their subsequent generations are lost to the Jewish people.

Regarding the Jewish State he envisioned, Herzl wrote, "The Jews, once settled in their own state, would probably have no more enemies."

"The Jews, once settled in their own state, would probably have no more enemies."

No comment necessary.

On the other hand, a foundational book of the Kabbalah, the Zohar, makes certain redemption-era predictions, as well. Unlike the predictions of Herzl, written down about 600 years later, the Zohar appears to me to be spot-on.

The Zohar says that the descendants of Ishmael receive a Divine reward for having preserved the rite of circumcision as taught to them by our common forefather, Abraham. As will be recalled, the Torah records Ishmael's circumcision at the age of 13, a tradition the Arabs, descendants of Ishmael - and all those influenced by the Ishmaelite religion of Islam - have preserved until today.

In the merit of this mitzvah, the Zohar explains, "The sons of Ishmael will rule a long time over the Holy Land, while it is empty of everything.... And they will delay the return of the sons of Israel to their place, until this merit of the sons of Ishmael will be completed."

And how long will that be? Well, from the conquest of Judea by the Arabs until the declaration of the State of Israel is 1400 years. However, 1936-1939 were the years of the first Arab Intifada, which became known as the "Arab Revolt." This "revolt" included organized and well-financed attacks on Jews throughout the Land of Israel. Might one perhaps say that the Arab Revolt was the opening shot in the children of Ishmael's war to hold onto their reward after 13 centuries; i.e., one century for each year of their

forefather's age at the time of his circumcision?

Or perhaps, by 1938 the Jewish communities and farms in Israel were sufficiently productive and reinvigorating of the land that it could no longer be considered a land "empty of everything," in the terminology of the Zohar.

It is also interesting to note that 1938 was the year of Kristalnacht in Germany, when Jews were given a blunt reminder of what it meant to remain in Galut.

And regarding the period after the return of the children of Israel to their land, at the conclusion of the Ishmaelite merit, the Zohar says, "The sons of Ishmael will cause great wars in the world, and the sons of Edom will be gathered to them and cause war against them."

Again, no comment necessary, except to note that, in Jewish commentaries, "Edom" often refers to the Western world - Europe and its cultural spin-offs such as America.

Tonguester

by Steven Plaut

Haim Ramon, one of the godfathers of the Oslo debacle and inventor of Israel's bolshevik "National Health Insurance" law, one-time Israeli Minister of Health and then later Minister of Justice, was convicted of sexual harassment of a young soldier. Now Ehud Olmert wants to bring him back into the cabinet as Minister of Finance.  Ramon will not be doing any prison time, unlike poor little Naomi Blumenthal.  Talk about tongue twisting

I would like to see billboards around the country that read: "I would rather have Haim Ramon's tongue in my mouth than his hand in my wallet!"

Why is the JTS Discriminating against Necrophiliacs?

by Steven Plaut

The Jewish Theological Seminary is the New York school in which rabbis serving in the Conservative synagogue movement are trained.  This week the media headlines are about the decision by the school to admit homosexual men and women as rabbinic students.  That would preseumably mean they would become ordained rabbis in a few years, at least as far as the "Conservative" synagogues are concerned, in a few years.JTS

The initiative seems to be that of the new JTS chancellor, Dr. Arnold Eisen.  Eisen is not an ordained rabbi.  Before coming to JTS he was a professor at Standord.  And long LONG before that, he was an undergrad in Philadelphia.  While I really doubt he remembers this, he and I were among the founders in the late 60s of the Philadelphia Union of Jewish Students.  I was a little PC twerp back then, while he was not.  How the times have changed.  Today I am an anti-PC twerp.  He however is acting as a Grand Master of Political Correctness at JTS.

Recruiting practicing homosexuals as rabbinic students was one of the banners Eisen brought to JTS.  To his credit, it should be noted that he is not infected with most other symptoms of PC whackiness, and he is decidedly not anti-Israel

Nevertheless, as someone raised in the Conservative movement, I find it terribly sad that the Conservative synagogue movement has decided to follow the Reformies and the Deconstructionists down the slippery slope of PC silliness.  Evidently the JTS thinks that the 11th Commandment reads, "Thou Shalt be Trendy".

It is also entirely arbitrary and inconsistent.  It is one thing to suggest that homosexuals be treated with civility and politeness, protected from most forms of job discrimination and the like.  It is quite another to suggest that practicing homosexuals are qualified to serve as rabbis.  Is the JTS intent upon emptying the position of "rabbi" of all moral stature and authority, as defined by Judaism?  Homosexual acts (as opposed to urges and feelings) are unambiguously defined by the Torah as abominations, morally equivalent to bestiality, and even can be capital offenses (never mind that such punishments were never applied).  If the JTS is to admit as rabbinic students practicing homosexuals, why not also practicing drug addicts, kleptomaniacs, alcoholics, incarcerated criminals, pedaphiliacs?

And if homosexuality is suddenly regarded by the JTS as irrelevant to being a rabbi, why the arbitrary discrimination in favor of homosexuals?  Why not also pass a new JTS policy admitting as rabbinic students those practicing bestiality, incest and necrophilia?  After all, really - why should THEY not be admitted?   Necrophiliacs do not hurt anyone and are simply expressing their love!   How are we to insist that they only marry the living until death do them part?

Jpost Breaking News: Putin and Hu Jintao To Homesh!

by Baruch Gordon

If you glanced at the Jerusalem Post homepage Monday evening, you would find the following main picture and caption:

Look closely at the above Jpost pic & caption

It appears that world leaders are beginning to internalize the message of Israel's pioneering settlement movement. Following a great awakening, they have connected to the undercurrents of the Jewish Nation's yearning for the complete return to Zion. According to the caption, Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Chinese counterpart have joined the determined marchers to rebuild Homesh.

It just goes to show that through persistence in our struggle to maintain Israel's territorial integrity, the IDF backs down, and then world leaders begin to understand. (Hat tip to A7 News Writer Hana Julian)

Trotskyite Trash in Israel

by Steven Plaut

Alon Dahan is one of the best columnists in Israel.  He often writes on the NFC.CO.IL web site.

Today he has a must-read article there, available only in Hebrew, entitled "The Trotskyist Revolution is On".  He begins by noting that most people in Israel, at least outside of certain pseudo-academic post-Zionist circles, understand that Stalin was an evil genocidal dictator.  But for some reason, Leon Trotsky has always been regarded with a bit of forgiving admiration by the members of Israel's intelligentsia and Moonbatocracy.

Dahan's article is as sharp as the ice pick of a Stalinist agent.  He argues that if anything Trotsky was more radical and pro-violence than Uncle Joe Stalin, the one-time "Sun of the Nations" in the words of Mapam's party newspaper.  Trotsky was far more imperialistic in insisting that the Soviet Union should undermine democratic capitalist regimes all over the world, whereas Stalin was content just with mass murdering Soviet Union citizens, and later lots of Poles and other Eastern Europeans.

Trotsky also was of the opinion that Jews should simply commit mass national suicide and mass assimilate into the surroundings.  Dahan argues that this is what makes him so attractive to the leftist chattering classes in Israel today.  Trotsky showed his "progressiveness" by displaying self-hatred and anti-Semitism and supporting those seeking to annihilate the Jews.  Just like our own local Post-Zionists.  And the Israeli leftists are all being sustained by the busybodies and anti-Semites from the EU. Go to fullsize image

Dahan then goes on to list the many examples of activist organization on the Israeli Left that are driven by little more than Trotsky-like Jewish anti-Semitism, or what Dahan calls Beilinite Trotskyism.  The far-Leftist pseudo-academics in Israeli universities are no better.

Trotsky in need of ACAMOL after meeting up with an ice pick:

Years ago, a student asked me if I could explain to him the difference between a Trotskyite and a Trotskyist.  I replied that it was exactly the same as the diffence between a pile of cow manure and a pile of bull manure.

So can anyone explain what the difference is between Israel's Trotskyite Post-Zionist pseudo-academics and the David-Irving-Ernst-Zundel movement?
