Op-Ed: God Bless Israel and Her People

      Published: Wednesday, January 14, 2009 10:34 PM
      This is what I saw.

No one, except for those who live in Israel, can understand what goes on here; because unless you live here, it is incomprehensible.

Tonight, just sitting in front of my television set in Jerusalem, this is what I saw.
We hate this, but we have no other choice.

A news program by Ilana Dayan which showed footage of the families of reservists coming to visit them a day before their unit rolls into the hellhole that is Gaza. Three young fathers. Twin girls run into the arms of one. His wife hugs him. Another holds a baby as a little boy hovers nearby. The third walks with his arm entwined with that of his young wife's.

"This is a just war. We are willing to take it to the end," says one of the fathers.

"Even if that means dying?" the interviewer asks.

He glances at his young wife: "Even then. For eight years they bombed us. We hate this, but we have no other choice."

The visit is brief. The children are carried on their fathers' shoulders to the car.

"Come home with us," the child begs.

"I will come home, soon," the father answers.

"Come home now, daddy," the child begs, inconsolable.

The father draws a heart on the dusty car window, and closes the door.

In Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon, evacuated because of numerous rocket attacks, patients have been moved underground. There, the nurses care for the newborn son of a woman who, two weeks ago, came knocking on the door of the emergency room in her ninth month. A woman from Gaza. They performed a C-section. The baby is fine. She is here with two other small children. The nurses play with Muhammad, the 18-month-old.

"These are good people, they care for me," the mother says.

The siren goes off. Nurses and the woman from Gaza holding her newborn, wait to hear the "boom" of yet another bomb from Gaza.

The night falls on Gaza, as we send our eighteen-year-olds and our fathers and husbands to go from house to house to undo the horrors of Hamas rule. Gazans elected Hamas, and now Hamas has put weapons in mosques and booby-trapped their homes. Hamas steals humanitarian food shipments, the ones Israel lets through even
      Islamic fanatics make peace impossible.
during rocket attacks on her own civilians, distributing it to armed terrorists and making civilians pay. There was never a more debased and barbarian movement than that of Hamas. Its leadership sits in bunkers sending out terrorists to fire rockets at Israeli schools from the midst of Palestinian schools, hoping that an Israeli retaliation will provide enough bodies for the world to demand a ceasefire; so that they can then claim their victory, get their payoffs from the Iranian mullahs, and rearm.

They will never give up, because they don't know how to do anything else. Like Nazis, these Islamic fanatics make peace impossible and unconditional defeat the only option.

May God bless our people and our land and continue to protect us, so that their rockets fall in empty fields and emptied homes until our soldiers can empty the land of this evil.
